PRESS RELEASE OF THE PLATFORM FOR THE FREEDOM OF ALFON:

After 6 months of Alfon's imprisonment, on June 17 2015, the platform for the Freedom of Alfon wants his release, leaving prison FIES 3 BA immediately, and we want to denounce the political and police set up.

Alfonso Fernández Ortega, a young activist from Vallecas committed to social and union struggles, was imprisoned on November 14th 2012, day of the European General Strike, against the retrenchments, against labour reform and against outsourcing in health and education systems, when he was going to be part of picket in his district.

Alfon spent 56 days in jail in the pre-trial detention in the building FIES, without an analysis of the alleged explosive device. Due to the lack of evidence and thanks to workers solidarity and social pressure made both nationally and internationally, on January 9th he was released from the Jail Soto del Real, in Madrid, on probation until the trial.

The trial against Alfonso Fernandez started on November 25th, 2015 in the Provincial Audience of Madrid, after it was suspended on September 18th, since the police officers who were supposed to declare were on holidays.

During the trial no one could prove that Alfonso Fernandez had the materials needed to manufacture an explosive device; even the material found by the police was different from the one analyzed since the chain of custody was broken twice; no one could specify whose fingerprints were the ones found in the bag, which was transported by police officers in the private car and they left it in the police station without any kind of safety protocol.

The only evidence in the court were the testimonies of the police officers who arrested him. There were several contradictions between the officers during their statements, for example where he was found. The court did not regard any statement of the witnesses of Alfon, including the young woman who was arrested with him.

It is obvious that Alfon is a victim of vile police set up and a political trial. Both the police report presented by the officers during the trial, as well as the questions made by the district attorney were focused on Alfon's ideological activity; it was proven during the trial that he was submitted to a police follow-up since 2009 without any kind of any judge.

In January 2015 he was convicted to 4 years in prison by the Provincial Hearing and on June 16th ratified by the Supreme Court and he is arrested on June 17th 2015.

Alfon, with a Human Wall of Solidarity of his neighbours and comrades, turn himself in to the authorities in the Curch San Carlos Borromeo and his detentions becomes an act against an unfair sentence for a felony he did not commit and that has not been proven.

From the Platform for the Freedom of Alfon we make an appeal to solidarity which will be carried out in a week of protests from December 11th to 17th with rallies, public meetings and demonstrations at national and international level.
