December 12th: International Day of the Persecuted Worker

From Shiva Mahbobi,
Spokesperson for Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran

A 12 of December, on this important day, the day of persecuted workers, on behalf of the Campaign to Free the Political Prisoners in Iran, I would like to send my solidarity to jailed workers of Las Heras in Argentina and their families. I would like to send my solidarity to all those workers who have been fighting for their right.
In Argentina, Iran and many other countries, workers are being put in prison, harassed, kidnapped and terrorized, because they demand their basic rights. But that’s not it. They put them in prison because they know the power of workers movement; because they know that when workers ask for their rights, they’re speaking on behalf of the society. They know that. These governments know that. When they put workers in prison is because they want to suppress protests of the society.

Just like in Argentina, in Iran also, hundreds of labour activists have been harassed, put in prison and tortured, just because they demanded their rights, just because they demanded the right that belong to the whole society. They speak on behalf of the society. They fight for the right of the people.

Just recently, a labour activist Daoud Rafi was flopped because he was demanding his rights. Another famous labour activist Jafaar Azimzadeh is currently in prison because he was organizing a petition to increase the workers wages. So let’s put our forces together on this day. Let’s be the voice of all the jailed workers and their families.

Long live solidarity!
