The fight of the refugees in Europe
Today more than ever, the claim is “Open the borders!”
Demonstration in Germany against closing the borders of UE and the deportation of 69 refugees to Afghanistan.
Syrian refugees stand in solidarity with them. Speech of Asad Alqassar:
“There’s something strange I feel when I see those suits (lifeguard vests) here… One day I was wearing those same suits (lifeguard vests) in a boat, crossing seven countries to be here in Germany. This colour reminds me to this moment. I don’t know if it is a good moment or a bad moment.
I stand before you here today… and I feel sad and choked, because of what I am hearing every day about closing the borders in the face of people that are escaping from the desert.
I feel a great pain for travelers. First of all, because they are humans, and I wouldn’t deserve humanity if I don’t feel pain or be in solidarity with the people that have only one request: to be in peace and have some dignity.
One day I was behind the borders, like these people, escaping from the regime of the dictator Bashar Al Assad; escaping from the radical islamists in Syria, escaping from the Russian bombs that attack my people until today.
But I was lucky. In that day I was really lucky… all the political situation… all the public… all the media… all were raising that banner of “refugees welcome”.
But today no! I don’t know what happens now! I feel there is a big title written clearly “Stay away from our borders! It is not our problem, just die away from our borders”. They don’t care about humanity; they don’t care about dreams; they don’t care about how they got to Europe, just “die away from our borders”.
The Italians closed the borders. The Hungarian closed the borders. The Bulgarian soldiers shooting the refugees in the Turkish borders. Austria shutting the borders. And sadly, before some days, a strange man here in Germany takes the microphone and says “In my 69 birthday I will send 69 Afghani refugees to Afghanistan, ha ha ha” This is bullshit!...
I am asking myself and I am asking all of you. Are we going to be silent about closing of borders in the face of these people? Are we going to be silent on what happened in the German media, to turn us the refugees in the new Jewish? Everybody understands what this means. The German media today turned us to a new Jewish. Will repeat the history? I don’t think that. Nobody will accept this bullshit! No! No! No!...
A great man, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, once said “If there’s an inocent man in this world and there’s a hit on his face, I will feel it on my face”.
And now, ladies and gentlemen. I call you to have a silent moment to honor the victims that die in the way to Europe just to have peace and dignity…
Thank you from my heart…”
