Different mining unions in Oruro are demanding the Mining Federation executive committee to set up the 33rd Mining Congress on this January 25th
“Let’s attend to the 33rd Congress on the 25th. If this congress is not set up (for that date) we will march on Monday to La Paz to take over the Mining Federation Natonal Executive Committee”
In a press conference held today, Oruro Departmental Worker Central, different unions and delegates to the 33rd Mining Congress from the following mining companies: Empresa Minera Huanuni, Empresa Minera Avicaya, Operaciones Metalúrgicas S.A. (OMSA), Empresa Minera Comunitaria Inca Sayaña (EMCOISA), Empresa Minera Inti Raymi S.A. (EMIRSA) and Empresa Minera Tiwanacu. They pronounced against postponing the Mining Congress two months more for next March and demanded its realization January 25th as stipulated last year since it has been a 9 years mandate for the current executive committee.
In an excerpt from their declaration, they say: “we are addressing every mining districts, state-run or private wage earners. Bolivian people: the time has come to recover the essence of the vanguard of the working class that today lays in the hands of self-prorogated leaders who are not up to the current political, economic and social situation of the country to provide clear and concrete answers´. When the declaration ended, one of the leaders announced he asks to attend the Mining Congress on January 25th and, in case it is not set up, workers should march on Monday to LA Paz city to take over the Bolivian Union Federation of Mining Workers.
Let’s recover the Mining Federation from the hands of the prorogateist bureaucracy that has kneeled to every government! For a politically independent working class!
In order to achieve the granitic unity of employed and unemployed workers we need to break away from the anti-workers government of MAS. We have already seen Arce handing over our minerals to the real country ‘jukus’ (robbers), i.e., the mining transnational companies. That way, Arce guarantees dollars for the imperialist banks to pay the fraudulent foreign debt. He also guarantees businesses to the agro industrial oligarchy from the fascist sectors of the Media Luna (Bolivian East provinces of Beni, Pando and Santa Cruz, NT) just like Evo Morales has done along the last 14 years.
Before it is too late and the attack against miners deepens with the privatization of all mines, let’s recover the Mining Federation and the COB (Bolivian Workers’ Central) for the working class base! Let’s fight for the COB Workers Central as it was in 1952 with the Pulacayo Theses legacy!
